Can the Denver Nuggets star be surpassed by Luka Doncic and Anthony Edwards in five years?
The star of the Denver Nuggets, Nikola Jokic, was almost unanimously chosen as the NBA’s best player in a recent ESPN survey. While this is to be expected, the poll suggested that Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks would surpass Jokic in the next five seasons as the league’s greatest player.
Doncic garnered six votes, Edwards received three votes, and Jokic only received two votes when it came to the topic of who will be the best player in the NBA in five years. This is fascinating because even though Jokic is younger than Doncic and Edwards, the Nuggets star is only 28 years old.
Even while not every NBA player can still dominate at age 33, Jokic plays a style of game that should hold up well over time. Jokic may conceivably continue to perform at his current level well into his 30s without being at all dependent on athleticism. Even with significant improvements from both of these young talents, it will be difficult to catch the current Finals MVP. This poll seemed to place more emphasis on Doncic and Edwards’ gains than Jokic’s decline.
Right now, Jokic is widely regarded as the top player in the world, and he has a good chance of keeping that title for a very long time. As was already noted, Jokic plays a style of basketball that should age very nicely, making it even harder to dethrone him.
