Steph Curry will receive the Charlie Sifford Award at the World Golf Hall of Fame’s inaugural ceremony in Pinehurst.
Steph Curry has amassed a significant collection of golfing hardware in addition to the many basketball awards he has won.
On Tuesday, it was announced that in June of next year, during his induction ceremony into the World Golf Hall of Fame, Curry would be presented with the Chаrlie Siffоrd аwаrd. The award is given to those who have gone “above and beyond” to promote equality in golf.
The opening ceremony for the hall at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club will be held at this time.
In 2024, the World Golf Hall of Fame will induct seven of the original thirteen founders of the Ladies Professional Golfers’ Association (LPGA), including Padraig Harrington, Tom Weiskopf, Sandra Palmer, John F. Reel, and Beverly Hanson.
“I am incredibly honored to be chosen as the recipient of this year’s Chаrlie Siffоrd аwаrd and am grateful to the World Golf Hall of Fame for the recognition in this sport that I am so passionate about,” said Curry. Someone on the green once said, “I believe we have the opportunity to grow the game of golf by providing equity, access, and opportunity to young golfers who have that same passion, dedication, and determination as so many of us out here on the green.”
After six years of promising to completely sponsor both men’s and women’s golf at Howard University, Curry will be honored in 2023 with the Ambassador of Golf Award for his advocacy work on the PGA Tour.
There were no Black golfers in the 2017 U.S. Open field, and Black golfers make up fewer than 2% of the sport’s overall participation.
Greg McLaughlin, CEO of the World Golf Hall of Fame, said that Curry “has shown passion and a commitment to giving more opportunities to young people who do not have access to the game of golf.” Steph’s dedication to broadening golf’s appeal is representative of champions like Charley Sifford. The World Golf Hall of Fame is committed to continuing Southern Company’s legacy for future generations by recognizing those “cоmmitted tо mаking gоlf an envirоnment fоr аll,” such as Steph.
