After Bucks game, Lakers have released three players, including Scottie Pippen Jr

Three Lakers, including star guard Scottie Pippen Jr., were waived after the team’s loss against the Bucks.

They believe the 2023–24 NBA season will be the catalyst for the Los Angeles Lakers to win their 18th NBA championship.

Their record of 2-3 through five preseason games belies some promise, especially on offense.

Head coach Darvin Ham has heavily rotated in rookies and inexperienced players in the second halves and, notably, the fourth quarters of these games. Scotty Pippen Jr., Damon Baugh, and Vincent Valerio-Bodon were all guards, but the team ultimately decided to waive them (h/t Lakers Daily).

Pippen played a significant role in Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Though he shot poorly (2/9) from the field and 4/9 from the line, his effort and energy on the court were commendable. The basketball star’s son had a double-double, with six assists, four boards, and three steals.

Scottie Pippen Jr., Damion Baugh, and Vincent Valerio-Bodon are no longer with the Lakers.

Three players with Exhibit 10 agreements were waived by the Lakers on Monday as they began the process of trimming their training camp roster. After their game on Sunday against the Bucks, the team decided to part ways with Scotty Pippen Jr., Vincent Valerio-Bodon, and Damion Baugh, making that game the squad’s second-to-last preseason game. The most minutes of the preseason were played on Sunday by Pippen Jr., who also played the most minutes overall. Tonight, with Austin Reaves, Jalen Hood-Schifino, and Gabe Vincent all out with injuries, SPJ stepped in to play point guard.

He obviously did not make a valiant effort to keep his spot on the squad after learning that he and his fellow teammates would be waived, despite the fact that this outcome had been predicted for some time. The Exhibit 10 contracts all three signed essentially extend invites to training camp with the South Bay Lakers and promise them a profitable future with the organization if and when the parent team waives them.

Unless the three are offered a large deal, which is highly unlikely in the G League but not unheard of in other leagues, it is quite unlikely that they will sign with any other team.

Darvin Ham has suggested that the starting lineup for Thursday’s last preseason game will closely resemble the regular season lineup for the first three quarters.

The Lakers have completed their roster with 14 players with these trades, including D’Moi Hodge, Colin Castelton, and Alex Fudge who are all versatile.
