Anthony Davis, a superstar for the Los Angeles Lakers, has always been incredibly talented, but his effort and passion have been inconsistent. But Davis has looked like the superstar the Lakers need him to be, so head coach Darvin Ham has high hopes for this season.
The big man has been a force on both sides of the court throughout preseason play. His offense has been aggressive, with him dominating inside the paint and displaying an enhanced outside shot. He has been a strong leader on defense while also blocking and affecting shots around the basket.
Davis scored 16 points, grabbed seven boards, dished out five assists, swiped two steals, and blocked two shots in 19 minutes on Sunday against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. Davis looked great again, and Ham thinks the way the Lakers’ season ended last year stoked a fire under the team’s big man and the rest of the team.
“I observe an inspiring degree of concentration. After the match, Ham proclaimed, “He was phenomenal.” Some of the games he put together and the streaks he had last year were simply incredible. He’s the one who really drives our group forward.
Since being swept is even worse than being eliminated, our team’s loss together sparked renewed motivation among the returning players. They all know what’s at risk, even the new guys we brought in. And he’s leading the charge.”
People have been pushing for Davis to take over as team captain for the Lakers ever since he signed with the team. Ham has seen a new side of Davis this offseason and isn’t surprised by his strong showing in the preseason, while LeBron considers Davis to be the face of the organization already.
“He wants that responsibility of being the guy that sets the tone on both sides of the ball,” Ham said. Over the course of the summer, whenever I interacted with him, he seemed more focused than ever before. He has been steadily piling on the days leading up to training camp, which began in August and will go until October.
Constantly becoming into a more physically and athletically capable player. Putting up long hours to guarantee not only his availability but also his ability to shoulder a substantial burden. I wasn’t shocked to see him do so well in the preseason.
The Lakers’ superstar, Davis, has put in all the work this offseason to be at his best all season long, addressing a problem that has plagued him for the most of his career. He has looked like the Anthony Davis that Lakers fans have been waiting for so far this preseason.
Darvin Ham, Anthony Davis’s coach for the Lakers, has defended Davis’s decision not to participate in an NBA general manager poll.
Davis’s play as the season wound down and the playoffs began served as a timely reminder that he is, at the very least, a top-10 NBA defender. However, the Lakers big man ranked poorly among the league’s best defenders and best interior defenders in a recent study of NBA general managers. However, after the survey results were made public, Ham came out in defense of his colleague.
They can have their say, but as far as I’m concerned, he’s the beating heart of our defensive unit,” the Lakers’ head coach remarked. He made it so that our defense consistently ranked first or second and even first at times. There’s a good reason why they don’t really tie names to certain votes now that the deadline has gone, but I don’t worry about that. When we play the other 29 teams, I know exactly what he is and how important he is to our baseball team.
We just keep doing what we’re doing and trying to figure out how to make our own luck.
