If USA Basketball GM Grant Hill wants Kevin Durant, then he should definitely join the team.

As of the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, Durant has scored more points than Carmelo Anthony and was the leading scorer in Olympic history, having won three gold medals. After the United States’ lackluster performance at the FIBA World Cup in the Philippines last month, numerous NBA stars have come out and expressed their plans to play the following summer.

According to an interview with Yahoo Sports, Durant blamed “whoever is making the calls” for the situation. They choose who makes the team and what positions everyone plays, but I plan to play this summer regardless. If only they’d let me join the team.

On Monday night, Durant played well in a preseason game against Portland. Durant played for only 15 minutes but scored 19 points. Along with Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, he wore street clothes for the second half.

The idea that Durant wouldn’t have to lobby for a roster position made him happy. Former teammate Stephen Curry has expressed interest in taking part, filling the one gap in his otherwise Hall of Fame-worthy resume. LeBron James hasn’t participated in the Olympics since 2012, but he has expressed a desire to return.

It’s reasonable to assume they’ll be slam dunks, and that Durant won’t have to bother campaigning to Hill.
