The snapshot Kevin Durant and Rhyne Howard posted of themselves together on Monday night has caused quite a stir online.
The Phoenix Suns player appeared to put his head on the Atlanta Dream guard’s shoulder in a recent photo.
Howard, the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year in 2022, simply said, “Oh hey,” and then added a smiley face with heart emoji.
The photo, which appeared to be taken after the Suns’ 117-116 win over the Blazers at Footprint Center, where Howard, then 23 years old, was in attendance, was reposted by Durant, 35, on his Instagram Story.
She also posted an image of herself in the crowd watching the game.
Some people have wondered if Howard and she are dating after reading his message.
Neither Durant nor Howard have commented on the rumor mill.
Since the two had been friends for a while, it’s possible that the two-time WNBA All-Star was just showing her support for Durant.
The reigning NBA champion has also been outspoken in his admiration for women’s sports and the WNBA.
Howard posted a selfie of herself and Durant from January with the latter’s arm around Howard’s shoulder.
That player was “Ya favorite player’s favorite player,” she gushed.
Howard later claimed that she sneaked into Durant’s direct messages while at one of his games and that’s how the photo came to be.
Someone told me that I was one of Kevin Durant’s favorite players, and I said to myself, “Thee Kevin Durant loves me?” In a March episode of Mercury’s “The It Girls” podcast, Howard reflected on the time.
And so, during a break, I went to a game when I was at home… I sent him a direct message (DM) saying, “I feel like I need to meet you formally; can I come down?”
That’s when Durant sent someone to pick her up, Howard continued.
“We had a brief discussion,” she revealed. He’s cool, he’s friendly, and he snapped the photo.
I asked him to take a TikTok with me, but he was too exhausted to cooperate. Recently, I sent him a text saying, “Guess I have to replace my Nets jersey with a Suns jersey — and he’s like, “Yeah, haha” and he was saying how he was trying to get to some of our games and stuff like that.”
Howard also quipped that her favorite NBA player is Klay Thompson, a former teammate of Durant’s with the Warriors.
On Monday, Durant played for only 15 minutes, yet he still managed to score 19 points, dish out four assists, and pull down three boards.
