Nike has had great success with their approach of introducing retro versions of their players’ footwear on a regular basis. Considering that Kevin Durant is the newest lifetime athlete for Nike, his recent success and that of his brand should come as no surprise. He’s going to debut one of the first models from his 16-shoe signature line early in August. Check out our news roundups for all the most recent sneaker releases and industry insider information.
In 2010 Kevin Durant, just three years into his NBA career, unveiled the Nike Zoom KD 3. For the first time, Durant’s sneakers featured the low profile and Nike Flywire technology. The “Easy Money” colorway pays homage to Durant’s childhood birthplace of Oklahoma City as well as his online persona, “EasyMoneySniper.”
Both personal information and allusions to money are crammed into the shoes. The official color code is Light Silver/Blue Jay/Steam/Mineral Spruce/Metallic Copper. The shoes’ uppers are brushed in a light silver with a sheen that is somewhat monetary and green. Reflective hits are included in the laces, and the colors extend to the tongue. The Thunder and, more subsequently, the Phoenix Suns are referenced in small orange embellishments on the Flywire. The outsole of Nike Zoom sneakers is the same stylish shade of green.
As a subtle detail, the shoes come with four copper “coins” that are inscribed with the letters “K-D-3-5.” The blue Swoosh has a “100” emblazoned across it, mimicking the blue stripe on a $100 bill. The tongue check’s interior is embellished with a copper autograph from Kevin Durant. The insoles, which have pictures of Durant’s face on $35 notes as decorations, are arguably one of the more intriguing aspects. These are undoubtedly the result of Nike’s labor-intensive efforts, and any fan of KD should not miss out on them. Visit SneakerFiles for photos with greater detail.
Starting on August 9, 2023, the sneakers will be sold through the Nike SNKRS app and a few Nike stores. Although the MSRP is $130, the secondary market is certain to grow. Are you fond of them? Would you purchase a set?
