Since 2005, the Beaverton-based firm has honored the African-American community every February by releasing special Black History Month collections of clothing and footwear. As part of its “Future Movement” initiative, Nike will donate $140 million over the next decade to local nonprofits, a shift from the company’s formerly annual “Royal Pack” of charitable initiatives.
Thus, the 2023 BHM campaign is spotlighting five different individuals from the Black community who are moving forward and embodying the values of prioritizing their wellbeing in order to best serve and improve society, magnifying the goal of communal well-being.
Kevin Durant, currently a forward for the Phoenix Suns, is the focus of a lot of positive attention because to his work with the Durant Family Foundation. Durant, a two-time NBA champion, has learnt valuable lessons about perspective, vulnerability, and ‘Black Consciousness’ throughout his tenure in the league. Durant’s nonprofit organizations aim to provide the next generation with the tools they need to keep tabs on their mental and physical health, and his own personal experiences with these fundamentals have informed his work.
“The most important thing is to communicate about your thoughts and feelings. To improve your health, “Durant added, “give yourself up and have honest, open talks with individuals.”
Nike Inc. will continue to invest and support organizations committed to economic empowerment, social justice, and fighting systemic inequalities through and beyond sport, and they’ll be joined by Olympic track and field athlete Anna Cockrell, three-time Olympic fencer Daryl Homer, professional hockey player Saroya Tiker, and rapper Watts Stix.
