LeBron James, the star player for the Los Angeles Lakers, thought about retiring over the offseason but chose to play in his 21st NBA season.

Even though no one really thought James would retire when he brought it up after the Denver Nuggets beat the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, it was only natural for someone who is about to turn 39 and has done everything there is to do in the NBA to wonder how much longer he can play.

James feels refreshed for the 2023–24 season after getting his foot healthy and seeing what Rob Pelinka did to make the Lakers better in the offseason. He is ready to bring another title to L.A.

According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, LeBron talked about what drives him for the next season and how excited he is about this Lakers team after practice on Saturday.

I believe that the Larry O’Brien trophy is what drives me to keep being the best I can be and to be clear about what I want to do with my work. I think about it every day.” Being able to raise that prize is one of the four best times of my career. So, that was the only reason. But I also want to be famous in this game so that my game speaks for itself long after I’m gone. But this team has also inspired me. Every day I go to practice and watch the guys work. Every day they compete with each other and try to get better. Do the things we want to do. So, that’s also been inspiring.”

James is still one of the best NBA players when he’s fit. He finished the playoffs last year with 40 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists in 48 minutes against the Nuggets. Even though he wasn’t 100% healthy, he was a big reason why the Lakers made it that far.

The Lakers’ added depth must be part of what’s making him so excited about this season. This should help him handle his task better during the regular season so that he’s fresh for the playoffs. With a 2-10 start last year, the Lakers didn’t have that option. They had to work their way up the Western Conference standings and through the Play-In Tournament just to make the playoffs.

Many of the players they acquired at the trade deadline are back for the Lakers, and they also added some good players in Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, and Christian Wood. They hope to get off to a good start in the regular season. That would help LeBron handle his workload day by day, which has been a big topic of talk during training camp.
