On Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers lost their final exhibition game of the preseason to the Phoenix Suns. Things went out of hand for the Lakers in the fourth quarter once they started playing their bench players, but this was a very close game for the majority of the game with both teams using their starting lineups and stars like LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Kevin Durant.
It has been quite some time since two of the best players in NBA history—LeBron James and Kevin Durant—have shared the court at the same time. The last time LeBron and Durant played together was on Christmas Day of 2018, when Durant was still a member of the Warriors and LeBron was still with the Cavaliers.
According to The Arizona Republic, after the game Durant said that it was an honor to play beside the Lakers great and that he and LeBron bring out the best in everyone.
“It’s always dope being on the floor with one of the best to ever do it, top five best to ever do it,” Durant said of playing with Kobe Bryant. Everyone in the arena, from the spectators to the staff to the players and the coaches, performs at their peak because of it. Therefore, it is always a privilege to serve in any position. It may be a spontaneous game. Through our efforts, we are able to bring out the best in each individual.
Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant are the best players of their time, but they are all on the downside of their careers. As a result, Durant values his opportunities to play alongside LeBron:
“It’s an honor,” remarked Durant. I’m sure you and I will soon be at the top. It’s nice to spend time on the floor with him whenever possible, even if it is near the conclusion of this little back and forth.
The two teams met for the first time in the preseason, but they will play each other again in less than a week when the Lakers host the Suns in the home opener on Thursday, barring any unforeseen circumstances. There will be mutual respect, but each player will do whatever it takes to help his team win.
