Steph Curry, superstar of the Golden State Warriors, has been named the recipient of the 2023 J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award by the Professional Basketball Writers Association for his “inspiring work in the community.”
Stephen Curry, of the Warriors, has been recognized for his community service.
Along with Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers, Wenyen Gabriel of the Los Angeles Lakers, and Grant Williams of the Boston Celtics, Stephen Curry was a finalist for the award in the 2022–23 season.
In 56 games this season, the 35-year-old averaged 29.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 6.3 assists, earning him a spot in the All-Star Game and on the All-NBA Team for the seventh time in his career.
“Few athletes have as great a reach or as powerful a platforм as Steph Curry, and he has used it to the fullest benefit of others,” remarked PBWA President Howard Beck. The members of the Professional Basketball Writers Association applaud him and the other nominees.
Each year, the PBWA recognizes an NBA player, coach, or athletic trainer who has demonstrated exceptional contribution to the community by bestowing upon them the honor named for the league’s second commissioner. More than two hundred reporters and editors make up the group and provide consistent coverage of the league.
After two years without a winner owing to the pandemic, the 2019-20 season marked the return of the honor. In 2020, while playing with the Indiana Pacers, Malcolm Brogdon was honored with the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award.
