The NBA and Nike’s uniform team-up has produced some absolutely banging jerseys over the years and Denver Nuggets fans have been on the bright end of some of those spoils—this season’s city edition garb will not fit that description.
The entire league’s city edition uniforms leaked late Sunday night, including the Nuggets, and we now know what the team will be wearing at times while attempting to defend their NBA title. The jersey that leaked looked like a black version of the team’s statement uniform—red collar and basic tones—mixed with a simplified modern mountain background, calling back to the rainbow skylines and then a yellow 5280 stamped on top referencing Denver’s altitude in feet.
The worst thing about this Nuggets uniform is that it features a lot of components that fans truly want, but they aren’t implemented in the way that supporters would want. Denver adored the white uniforms worn concurrently with the black futuristic skyline uniforms in the bubble.
The city also appeared to appreciate some of the other mashups and fusions to a period in Denver’s history that was more vibrant. However, Nuggets supporters will suffer because of whatever occurred to these clothes to make them appear somehow cheap, overly designed, poorly thought out, and generic college team alternative.
Luckily for Nuggets fans, they’ll be rocking a new gold tag on the back of all their uniforms to signify the franchise has won a title. That tag has the number of titles any team who wears it has won, the Chicago Bulls gold detail says six.
On top of the Nuggets new look, the looks around the NBA aren’t very good either. Milwaukee, Minnesota the Clippers and Kings each could be decent but the rest already are an eyesore.
It’s too bad this 5280 jersey will be added to the flatiron red in bad looks during this Nikola Jokic golden era of Mile High Hoops. Thankfully for the Nuggets, NBA hasn’t ruined their look entirely and it’s pretty easy to spot which team is which on most nights.
