On Tuesday night, Devin Booker scored a game-high 32 points and also dished out three crucial assists in the final minutes that helped the Phoenix Suns beat the Golden State Warriors 108-104.
On opening night of the NBA season, Devin Booker led all scorers with 32 points and then helped seal the win for the Phoenix Suns with three assists down the stretch as they defeated the Golden State Warriors 108-104 in San Francisco.
A tight game that went back and forth until Booker found Josh Okogie in the left corner for a 3-pointer with 1:09 remaining pushed the Suns’ advantage to three points, 103-99.
Booker pulled the defenders and found Eric Gordon open for another 3-pointer, this time increasing the lead to five points with 44.7 seconds remaining after Stephen Curry had responded with two free throws.
With 31.4 seconds remaining, Golden State, who had lost three of four games to Phoenix previous season, cut the deficit to 106-104 on a 3-pointer by Stephen Curry off an offensive rebound.
Following a timeout, however, Jusuf Nurkic got the ball with 10.3 seconds left and scored the game-winning layup off a Booker pass.
Booker had six, seven, and eight assists without his new backcourt partner Bradley Beal, who was out with a back injury.
Phoenix’s Kevin Durant contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Nurkic scored 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for his own double-double.
Okogie scored 17 points, including on his lone 3-point try of the game, and Gordon added 10 points off the bench despite missing his first seven 3-point attempts.
Although they attempted 10 less 3-pointers (43-33) than the Warriors, the Suns still outscored them 33-30.
With 27 points, Curry led six Warriors in double figures, but he shot poorly from beyond, missing 10 of his 14 attempts.
Without Draymond Green (ankle), the Warriors were led by Klay Thompson’s 15 points, Chris Paul’s 14 points and game-high nine assists, and 12 points from Warriors reserve Jonathan Kuminga.
With 21 points on the board before halftime, Booker was a major contributor to Phoenix’s 15-point lead. In the third quarter, however, the Warriors staged a comeback, going on a massive 21-2 run that gave them a 73-66 advantage with five minutes left in the third quarter.
