There’s a new and important fan of the Texas Rangers.
There is a new fan of the Texas Rangers.
To the joy of Dallas-Fort Worth sports fans, Dallas Mavericks star Luka Dončić donned a Texas Rangers cap during his press conference following Wednesday’s 120-112 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In order to allay fans’ doubts, Dončić affirmed the genuineness of the act.
“Yes, DK made me a Texas Rangers fan,” Dončić replied. “It was DK, the most important guy in our organization, I believe.”
“DK” stands for Don Kalkstein, who oversees sports psychology for the Mavericks. From 1995 to 2005, Kalkstein oversaw performance enhancement for the Rangers. He played a similar function for the Boston Red Sox for seven years as well.
Among the NBA’s brightest young stars, Dončić has emerged. The native Slovenian, who is only 23 years old, has already earned three All-Star selections and two All-NBA honors. With 46 career triple-doubles, the 2018–19 NBA Rookie of the Year is ranked 10th all-time. Dončić equaled basketball great Wilt Chamberlain for the fifth-most 30-point triple-doubles in NBA history during the Mavs’ most recent victory over the Lakers.
Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys was given a personalized jersey by the Rangers as they welcomed him to Globe Life Field the previous season. Dončić is a vocal fan of the Rangers already, so it might not be too long before he visits Arlington.
Naturally, there’s a fair chance Dallas supporters may wish for that to wait until after the NBA Finals in June.
