The Boston Celtics beat the New York Knicks 108–104 on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden to start the 2023–2024 season.
New York is down to 0-1 after the first game, while Boston is up 1-0.
Here is where you can see the full box score. Boston got off to a fast start in the first game of the season with a new starting group that showed what it could do.
Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis got into a groove, which helped the offense get going. They scored 64 points together.
Even though Jaylen Brown only scored 11 points, he found a few ways to get to the basket. During a slump in the third quarter, the Celtics let a 10-0 run happen in less than a minute, and they had some problems getting rebounds. But the group as a whole showed potential. Derrick White and Jrue Holiday played like the good backcourt players they are, and Porzingis had four blocks in a great start.
Even though Boston had problems on defense and in the glass, they did a lot of good things thanks to their star player. After Opening Night, Joe Mazzulla’s team needs to make some changes.
That’s where Tatum left off last season. He scored 34 points in the first game of this season.
– Porzingis made an immediate effect on both ends of the court, scoring 30 points in his first game with the Celtics during the regular season, including a late three-pointer that won the game.
Immanuel Quickley gave the Knicks a huge boost coming off the bench. He scored 24 points, including a very good 5-of-7 performance from three-point range.
