The Phoenix Suns and the Golden State Warriors played their season opener on Tuesday night at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
After three years with the Warriors, Kevin Durant left in free agency after the 2019 campaign.
On Tuesday, he returned to the Chase Center to play in a game there for the first time since leaving the team.
The Warriors played a video tribute to the 13-time NBA All-Star, and the crowd roared in approval.
The Warriors also shared a photo of Durant and his ex-teammate Steph Curry, which has gone viral after receiving over 10,000 likes in under two hours.
They wrote “Once teammates” as the caption for the photo. Together forever”
The Warriors went to the NBA Finals all three years Durant was there and won two titles.
In 2017 and 2018, they triumphed over the Cleveland Cavaliers, with Durant being named Most Valuable Player of the Finals both years.
In 2019, however, the Warriors’ season ended in defeat to the Toronto Raptors after Durant suffered an injury in Game 1 of the finals.
Following his departure from the Warriors, Durant spent two and a half seasons with the Brooklyn Nets, during which time the team made the playoffs just once.
After being sent to the Suns, who ended up as the Western Conference’s fourth seed, he helped lead them to the playoffs.
They made it to the second round of the playoffs, but lost to the Denver Nuggets (in six games).
Meanwhile, since Durant left, the Warriors have twice made the NBA playoffs and won a championship.
