Even though Kevin Durant is no longer a part of the Golden State Warriors, the team’s two NBA titles and NBA Finals MVP award will always be in his name. Because of this, Durant thinks it’s only fair that the team retire his jersey.
Durant spoke openly about the possibility of the Warriors retiring his jersey in an interview with Marc J. Spears of Andscape. It all started when Warriors owner Joe Lacob said he didn’t want to see the number 35 worn by anyone ever again in a game.
“He should,” Durant said. “Look at the résumé. That would warrant me to get a jersey retirement, right? Do I want to be honored by a franchise I put work in for? Of course, I would love that. I had some great moments there. I built some solid relationships there. Yeah, man. Hell yeah, that would be sweet. I love that organization, man. I love my time there, seriously. Me leaving, people shouldn’t doubt that, because I left there.”
Warriors supporters should always express their support for Kevin Durant, even if he isn’t the NBA’s most popular player. If Durant doesn’t sign with the team in 2016, the organization will likely lose two titles and won’t have nearly the same powerful image.
The Golden State Warriors should retire the jerseys of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Kevin Durant.
