The Golden State Warriors’ point guard, Stephen Curry, had an opponent on Thursday. At the Oakland, California Marriott City Center, Madame Tussauds unveiled a wax replica of the basketball great, complete with his signature number 30 jersey.
The statue brought back some fond memories for the NBA champion and his wife Ayesha. The Hollywood Museum was the setting for one of the couple’s earliest outings together in the City of Angels.
Having a wax figure of his own is “pretty special,” Curry told reporters in a statement. “That was one of our first experiences together, walking through and taking pictures with the wax figures at the museum.”
The ball is frozen in the palm of NBA MVP Stephen Curry’s left hand in this wax replica of his award-winning performance from 2014–15. Over the course of four months, artists and sculptors painstakingly replicated the 28-year-old athlete by taking hundreds of measurements.
To replicate his likeness, the team zeroed in on the four tattoos the basketball player had, including the letter “A” on his ring finger, the initial of his wife’s name. With a final price tag of around $350,000, the finished statue can now be shown at Madame Tussauds San Francisco.
General Manager Chris Connors of Madame Tussauds San Francisco said, “We are thrilled to add Bay Area NBA phenomenon Stephen Curry to our attraction.” Sports fans from all around the country, I’m sure, would flock to see his likeness preserved in wax.
Curry will be joining the likes of performers Zendaya and Laverne Cox at the Fisherman’s Wharf venue.
