Cleveland has been having a party since Sunday night, and the happiness doesn’t seem to be going away.
Now, after 52 years, the city can finally enjoy a big sports win. The fact that LeBron James and the Cavaliers won the NBA title on Sunday shouldn’t have been a surprise.
Crowds gathering in the streets out of the blue after the win. Even more fans greeted the Cavaliers when they flew in from Los Angeles. Also, the city held a parade on Wednesday at noon that drew thousands of people the night before.
A member station of WCPN tells our Newscast section, “There are a lot of biblical references here when you talk about King James, who was known as the Chosen One, and then the Second Coming.” It is pretty amazing that they won the title.Urycki says that a season ticket holder from the suburbs who drove into town for the parade called it a “pilgrimage.”
“I talked to several people yesterday at the hotels who told me that it’s all Clevelanders, Ohioans, and Cavs fans from all over the country flying home just to be here for this parade,” Urycki said. It has a big effect on how people feel.
A lot of people came to the parade because it was sunny and people were very proud of their community.
What’s the big deal about this parade?
The city courts of Cleveland are not fining or arresting people who miss a court date because of a party. This is a real thing.
The American Press says that Cleveland hasn’t enjoyed a major championship win since 1964.
The news service says, “Championships were nothing out of the ordinary.” The Browns won seven titles between 1946 and 1955.
Things have changed a lot in the last ten years.
The last time Cleveland had a parade to honor a sports team was in 1995, when the Indians made it back to the World Series for the first time since 1954. It was Atlanta who beat them.
“A parade of honor for coming in second place.”
Anyhow, that was back then. Now is the time.
And now Cleveland is a place that often has winners.
