Hawks beat Bucks 127-110 with to balanced scoring and effective defense against Damian Lillard

WISCONSIN β€”  On Sunday night, the Atlanta Hawks defeated the sluggish Milwaukee Bucks 127-110 with a 20-point performance from Trae Young leading eight players in double digits. The Hawks held Damian Lillard to just six points.

The Hawks were led by Jalen Johnson with 14, followed by Dejounte Murray with 15, and both Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu with 14.

Although he scored 39 points in his Bucks debut on Thursday, Lillard went scoreless and committed six of his team’s nine turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.

Lillard scored his first points for Milwaukee at the 3:33 mark of the third quarter on a pull-up 3-pointer after being traded there in exchange for Jrue Holiday, Grayson Allen, and draft picks in September. He was 2 for 12 from the field and 2 for 8 from long range.

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Bucks (1-1). A total of 18 points were scored by Malik Beasley.

Khris Middleton, a forward for the Bucks, didn’t play as the club eased him back into action after offseason knee surgery. He will likely play against the Miami Heat on Monday.

Milwaukee started slowly, missing 7 of their first 8 attempts. After one quarter, Atlanta led 31-25 and had held the Bucks to 38.5% shooting.

In the second half, the Hawks’ (1-2) lead ballooned to 23 points. At halftime, their lead was 68-47.

Young resumed his shooting struggles from the beginning of the season, going 5 for 14. In Friday’s home defeat to the New York Knicks, Young shot just 4 for 16. In Wednesday’s season-opening loss to Charlotte, 116-110, he shot 4 for 19.
