Lakers Austin Reaves ‘Hillbilly Kobe’ star from farm to ‘promising’ NBA star

The shooting guard played a big role in the win over the Magic. He grew up in a small Arkansas town and joined the NBA after not being chosen.

Austin Reaves was born on a farm in one of them. The town has about 1,200 people and is in Arkansas. Reaves is 24 years old and 1.96 meters tall, so he looks like he belongs in the city.

He is a shooting guard for the LA Lakers, though, and they just beat the Magic 111-105 with 35 points. It was the game of his life.

So, “Hillbilly Kobe,” as one of his assistant coaches at the University of Oklahoma called him because of how good he was at scoring.

The boy grew up playing baseball and learned how to play basketball from his bigger brother Spencer. Spencer played for Juaristi in the EBA and Tizona Burgos in the LEB Oro before moving to Germany and now plays for Brose Bamberg.

Austin quickly started to show off his basketball skills, which he got from his parents. His mother scored an average of 21.3 points per game at Arkansas State University, and his dad is the third most helpful player in school history.

He averaged 32.5 points a game in his last year of high school and got 73 points in one game.

His biggest worry was that he kept hurting the labrum in both shoulders, which required surgery. However, this didn’t stop several universities from contacting him.

He chose to go to Wichita State, where he did well for two years.

Then he tried to move to Oklahoma, but the NCAA made him sit out for a year. He didn’t wait around.

He made his body stronger and put on almost 10 kg of muscle. He averaged 18.4 points in his last college season.

But no one paid attention during the 2021 draft. The Lakers signed him to a two-way deal in August, which meant they could send him to the G League.

He quickly made a spot for himself on the team thanks to his shot, his knowledge of the game, and most of all, his hard work. He first persuaded LeBron James, who was already a fan, to join.

He also got help from the Angelinos’ many wounds on the outside. On October 22, he made his NBA start, which was a dream come true.
