Lakers’ Dynamic Duo: Anthony Davis and D’Angelo Russell Propel Team to Victory Over Magic

The Los Angeles Lakers went home to meet the Orlando Magic on Monday night, the second game of a back-to-back, after suffering a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Sacramento Kings the night before.

Both LeBron James and Anthony Davis were able to play against the Magic after logging significant minutes in Sacramento. However, Los Angeles was missing Rui Hachimura and Jarred Vanderbilt. But that didn’t stop them from beating Orlando by a score of 106-103 and improving to 2-2 on the season.

L.A.’s Austin Reaves and Anthony Davis each made a layup, but the Magic jumped out to an early lead with three-pointers on their first two possessions.

While D’Angelo Russell’s poster dunk on Paolo Banchero got the crowd going early, the Lakers’ offensive struggles were typical of the short season.

However, the Lakers went on a brief run at the end of the quarter thanks to contributions from Davis (two baskets) and Christian Wood (a 3-pointer) following a theft by Russell. The Lakers lead 29-24 at the end of the first quarter thanks to a three-pointer by Gabe Vincent.

The Lakers carried their momentum from the first quarter into the second, where they opened with a 6-0 run to build their first 10-point lead. However, Orlando’s Gary Harris got hot and hit four triples to get his club back into the game.

Davis continued to score with ease in the paint, but the Lakers still trailed 58-54 at halftime after a 3-pointer by Jalen Suggs.

In the third quarter, the Magic took an early eight-point lead thanks to some strong play from Franz Wagner. After a slow start to the season, Austin Reaves delivered a much-needed triple for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Lakers went on a 9-0 run to end the third quarter and take back the lead, 81-80, when LeBron was called for a clear path foul on Wagner.
