LeBron James is gearing up for his 21st season in the NBA and is clearly thinking about life after basketball. James is about to be 40 in December, and he already has a thriving business portfolio that includes the production company SpringHill Entertainment.
It’s common known that before James retires, he would like to get some playing time in with his son Bronny. James’s first grandiose retirement plan is beginning to take shape.
James plans to retire and then move to Las Vegas, where he hopes to own an NBA team. During an interview after the Los Angeles Lakers’ preseason win against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday, he addressed his dream to one day own a team in Las Vegas.
When questioned about the likelihood of NBA expansion to Las Vegas, James answered, “I think it’s only a matter of time, and I hope I’m part of that time.”
The NBA aims to reevaluate growth after the 2025 renewal of its television contract. In 2026, work is expected to begin on a new basketball arena in Las Vegas. All-Star Weekend has previously been hosted in Vegas, and the city also plays host to the NBA’s annual summer league and the U.S. national team’s training camp.
It appears that both Las Vegas and Seattle will soon obtain NBA expansion clubs.
James blasted out this tweet as reports of his postgame statements began making the rounds.
As a member of the Fenway Sports Group, which also owns shares of the Boston Red Sox, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Liverpool FC, James is no stranger to the world of sports club ownership.
Through the sale of an NBA team, Michael Jordan gained a massive fortune. LeBron James is up next.
