Clements Design aided the basketball player in furnishing his ultra-contemporary desert mansion after he was linked to supermodel Kendall Jenner in April of 2020.
Devin Booker’s modern Arizona mansion is a slam dunk.
The 25-year-old guard for the Phoenix Suns let readers of Architectural Digest into his desert sanctuary to marvel at the home’s extraordinary design, which gives the impression that it is floating on water, and the home’s über modern furnishings.
As for the latter, his 26-year-old girlfriend Kendall Jenner appears to have been the source of a recommendation for design services.
The property was done by mother-son team Kathleen and Tommy Clements of Clements Design, who also had a role in furnishing Kendall’s Los Angeles home and her mom Kris’s Hidden Hills, Calif. estate, which were featured by the publication in September 2020 and March 2019, respectively. The company has a stellar clientele roster, including Ellen DeGeneres and Jessica Alba.
“I consider myself fortunate to be surrounded by people with great style,” according to Booker. “Whenever I walk into my friends’ homes, I’m like a sponge, asking questions and absorbing what I see.”
The design was additionally motivated by a road trip he and Kendall had across Arizona during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He talks about how awestruck he was after visiting James Turrell’s gigantic art piece within a volcano called Roden Crater. He ended up buying an LED wall sculpture from the artist to display in the dining room. According to him, “It’s one of my favorite parts of the home, having this beautiful piece of art that me and my guests can appreciate while enjoying a meal.”
A large illuminating oval by Turrell, which was featured on the cover of AD, is also in Kendall’s home. I’ve always been a big fan of Turrell’s work. I first heard of him through Kanye [West], who frequently works with him,” Jenner said.
Booker’s house also contains an outdoor fire pit, a guest cottage, and a swimming pool designed after those found on the Indonesian island of Bali. The Clements made sure that the inside furniture they purchased or commissioned was designed with an NBA player in mind. That includes a 12-foot sofa and a scaled-up poker table for Booker and his teammates to comfortably gather around.
The finished result satisfies a lifelong dream for the athlete.
“When I was a kid growing up in Michigan, I’d close my eyes before bed and imagine what my house might one day look like,” according to him. “The size or shape of the home would be different depending on the night, but the interiors were always the same: modern with a bit of nostalgia in the mix.”
Booker is a bit of a homebody, which makes sense given that he has been fantasizing about interior design since he was a kid. “I know this house is something special,” he continues. When I’m driving for hours at a time, all I can think about is returning here. It’s as if it were always a part of me, but I’m only discovering it now.
