It had been 11 games since the Los Angeles Lakers last beat their foes from across the city, the L.A. Clippers, at home on Wednesday night.
The Clippers just got James Harden in a big trade, but he wasn’t ready to play against the Lakers yet. The Lakers were also missing some important players, but it didn’t matter because they were able to win 130–125 in overtime after falling behind early. This ended their losing streak.
Prince didn’t play for the Lakers until the very end because his knees hurt. He was replaced by Cam Reddish, who stole the ball and made a move to score the first basket. The Clippers answered with six straight points, but D’Angelo Russell made a three-pointer to put the Lakers back in charge.
Kawhi Leonard was on fire to begin with. His first five shots went in, and three of them were three-pointers. This gave the Clippers an early 19–11 lead.

But after a break, the Clippers went on another run because the Lakers were still having trouble on defense. Even though James scored 17 points in the first half to keep the Lakers in the game, the Clippers still had a 61–48 lead at the break.
Paul George and Russell each made two straight baskets for their teams to start the second half. After that, the Lakers began to make progress once more. Davis scored three points to bring the deficit back to ten points.
It looked like Russell was always making plays for himself and other players, and Reddish was stopping Leonard well. In the end, Austin Reaves scored two points, and then Christian Wood made a three-pointer that put the Lakers within one point.
Marcus Smart turned the ball over and Max Christie made two free throws to give the Lakers their first lead. They would be ahead 87–85 going into the fourth quarter. They beat the Clippers 39–24 in a great third quarter.
George made two three-pointers in a row to start the fourth quarter and put the Clippers back ahead. Following that, the Clippers’ rough play took over because they couldn’t stop hitting. Up until the end of the fourth quarter, the Lakers had a big lead. That’s when the Clippers had to score one more run to keep the game alive. He then dropped the ball, though, which let Davis dunk it while running away.
They fought all the way to the end. Westbrook hit a three-pointer and George made a layup in the last second to cut the lead to four points. Russell missed a three-point shot, but George made his own to tie the game at one point.
It was 18.5 seconds left, and Russell made two free throws to give the Clippers a three-point lead again. The game was tied after George made all three free throws. Reddish messed up, and George took another long shot.
Russell had one last great chance to beat the timer, but he missed. There was extra time in the game.
The second half was pretty quiet, but Leonard made a basket to start extra time. But George was called for hitting James when he tried to touch him.
The Lakers went ahead by three points again after Davis made a simple basket and then Reaves made a three-point play. Then Reaves stole the ball from Leonard and found James for an alley-oop during the change, which made everyone at Crypto.com Arena go crazy.
On the other hand, Leonard scored a three-point play right away for the Clippers, which they did all night. In the last minute, it was tied after Reaves made another goal. After that, Leonard made another three-point shot.
It wasn’t until Reaves made two more free throws that the Lakers finally got a stop. Wood would finally end the game with a big dunk off a putback.
