On the most recent episode of FanDuel’s Run It Back, three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams provided his opinion on the GOAT controversy, stating that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is the greatest of all time.
James, 38, is in his 21st NBA season. He just led the Los Angeles Clippers 130-125 in overtime with 35 points on 13 of 19 shooting, 12 rebounds, and seven assists. Through his first five games, he is averaging 24.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game.
James is the only player in NBA history to have maintained his peak performance over the course of two decades, much less someone who has done so consistently at an exceptional level.
In the never-ending fan discussion over who is the greatest player to have ever played the game—James or Michael Jordan—that’s arguably his greatest case ever.
Being a remarkable player in his own right, Jordan even averaged 20.0 points per game in his final season (2002–03), the year he turned 40. Along with a plethora of other honors, like as five MVP awards, six NBA titles, and eleven All-NBA selections, Michael Jordan averaged 30.1 points per game and won ten scoring crowns.
James has an impressive career as well, having won four NBA titles, four NBA MVP trophies, and 19 All-NBA accolades. James can yet write more chapters to add to his enormous legacy, though, as his career is far from over.
After yet another impressive performance, he’s off to a tremendous start in 2023–24. Now, he’ll seek to build on this positive momentum when Los Angeles faces the Orlando Magic on Saturday.
