The decision to use this structure for the NBA Season Tournament was made by league management over the summer of 2017, and it will have all 30 teams competing in 67 games for the NBA Cup.

The NBA Cup champion team and its players will each receive a prize of $500,000. The members of the team that came in first place will each get $500,000, while those on the team that came in second will each receive $200,000. In the meantime, the individuals and teams that did not advance past the quarterfinals will each receive $50,000 and the losing teams from the semifinals will receive $100,000.
