Stephen Curry, a guard with the Warriors, went on vacation to Tanzania for the first time in 2013. His goodwill was inspired by his cultural visit of Tanzania, specifically the villages around Serengeti.
Malaria is a major public health crisis because of the widespread presence of mosquitoes in these regions. However, many households could not afford to purchase mosquito nets to protect their children while they slept. After returning to the United States, he said he will fulfill his vow to donate mosquito nets to many households.
He followed through on his promise by launching a campaign with the United Nations to end malaria in the region often known as Sub-Saharan Africa using nothing but bed nets. He prevented the deaths of thousands of children by distributing mosquito nets. According to Beat Malaria.org, the mosquito-transmitted sickness put youngsters under the age of five at a tremendous risk. They note that
Malaria is more common in children younger than five years old, the organization says on its website. Every 60 seconds, a child dies from complications related to malaria. In 2013, Curry promised to donate three mosquito nets to a family in Tanzania for every three-pointer he made. The next year, he personally donated 816 nets to the Nyarugusu Refugee Camp in Tanzania, where he had learned to play the game.
