The Warriors won despite the fact that it was not a particularly clean game against the Pistons.
On Monday night, the Golden State Warriors prevailed over the Detroit Pistons with a score of 120-109. The Warriors turned in a poor performance, as evidenced by the fact that they only narrowly defeated a lottery club that was without multiple rotation players. Despite this, the Dubs will emerge victorious in the early part of the season.
Even though the Warriors had their whole roster available for the second game of a back-to-back, it appeared as though Golden State was still suffering the impact of playing two games in a span of less than 48 hours the entire time. The Pistons jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, but it wasn’t until later that Steph Curry found his rhythm.
Curry continued to strengthen his position as the early-season front-runner for Most Valuable Player despite the odds against him. At the end of the game, he had a plus/minus of +17 and scored a game-high 34 points. He had more than 21 points, making him the only player on either team to do so.
Curry did receive some offensive help from the rest of the Dubs bench, which was helpful. In little over 21 minutes of action, Chris Paul recorded a stat line that included 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists. Dario Aria and Jonathan Kuminga each contributed double-digit scoring off the bench for their team. Gary Payton II and Moses Moody also made a number of important contributions in a constructive direction.
Cade Cunningham, Killian Hayes, and Ausar Thompson, three rookie players for the Detroit Pistons, carried the team for the most of the game. Cunningham finished the game with a point total of 21, four rebounds, and five assists. Hayes, whose shooting is typically inefficient, had a game in which he shot 8 of 11 from the field and 3 of 4 from three-point range, finishing with 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists. Thompson finished the game with a point total of 16, six rebounds, and five steals.
The Warriors were able to pull away from the Pistons for good after Steph Curry’s run of hot shooting gave them a two-possession advantage with seven minutes left in the game’s regulation time.
On their current road trip, the Warriors still have one more game to play. They will travel to Denver to take on the reigning NBA champion Nuggets in what is sure to be a thrilling game. The first shot is planned to go up at 7:00 PM (Pacific Time).
