Saturday, November 7 – The Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Boston Celtics 114–109 in overtime on Monday night in Minneapolis. Anthony Edwards scored 38 points, which was the most in the game. It was the Celtics’ first loss of the season.
He also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out seven assists to help the Timberwolves beat the Celtics 13–8 in OT. Minnesota was ahead 106–105 in overtime, and Edwards made three straight jump shots to make the score 112-105. The Celtics’ Jayson Tatum scored 32 points, which was the most on the team. Jaylen Brown scored 26 points and Kristaps Porzingis scored 20. Before the game, Boston was scoring 126.4 points per game, which was the most in the NBA.
Rudy Gobert scored 14 points and grabbed 12 boards for the Timberwolves, while Jaden McDaniels scored 20 points. There were 10 rebounds for Karl-Anthony Towns before he fouled out with 3:56 left in OT. He was only able to score seven points. With 6:35 left, Edwards made a 3-pointer to give the Timberwolves a 90-88 lead. It was the start of an 8-2 run that put the Timberwolves ahead 95–90 with 5:02 left in the fourth.
After a 9-2 run, Brown’s 3-pointer put Boston ahead 101-98. But McDaniels’ 3-pointer with 1:41 left in the fourth tied the game 101-101. Neither team scored again during the game.
Minnesota had a 29-26 lead after one quarter, but the Celtics were ahead 55-52 at the break. The Timberwolves beat the Celtics 27–19 in the third quarter and were ahead 79–74 going into the fourth.
