The Dallas Mavericks, led by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, were a huge uncertainty going into the 2023–2024 NBA season.
With two stars who were so similar in their ball handling, shooting, and prominence but distinct in their personalities and leadership styles, there were reasonable concerns about their ability to get along and win when they played together for the first time last season.
But they are stars, that’s all. They have therefore had an incredible start to the season.
They appear to be adjusting and succeeding with six victories and just one defeat, which came against the defending champion Denver Nuggets.
So far, the Mavericks are winning consistently. On Monday, they defeated the Orlando Magic 117-102 in Florida in a crucial matchup with one of the league’s top offenses.
Irving and Doncic defeat Orland to win
When Doncic and Irving took over in the closing minutes, the game was settled.
Irving made a spectacular 2+1, and Doncic set him up for a three-pointer with a beautiful pass.
The Slovenian responded with another slam to win the match.
Irving added 21 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds against Doncic’s 29 points, six assists, and three rebounds.
The Slovenian point guard led the way throughout the entire performance, and he has now recorded 10 assists in two straight games.
The Mavericks coach Jason Kidd remarked calmly, “Their chemistry is perfect.”
