Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is doubtful for Sunday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers with a left calf strain while Anthony Davis is probable with left hip/adductor spasms. Jaxson Hayes is also likely with a left ankle sprain while Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent and Jalen Hood-Schifino stay out.
James’s calf/shin was hurt after he bumped legs with Kevin Durant early in the first quarter of Friday’s victory over the Phoenix Suns.
Even though he played the whole game, he is now categorized as doubtful since his injury never fully healed and he continues to feel stiff and painful.
Despite repeated attempts, James was unable to get it to relax. However, I was the one behind the wheel when KD’s knee landed awkwardly on my shin, causing it to lock up. I took a shot to the foot, so I made sure everything was well, kept my cool, and tried to keep my foot as free as possible so I could still play the game and be effective. Now that your adrenaline levels are dropping, you’re probably feeling quite a bit of pain. I’ve iced it and everything, and now it hurts really bad, but that’s just how the play went.
It doesn’t appear to be significant, but James will be a game-time decision for Sunday’s game, so we’ll have to keep an eye on his status.
Davis, meanwhile, returned to action against the Suns after missing one game with a hip ailment. His performance wasn’t great, but he looked to be feeling better as the game went on.
Davis admitted that he struggled to get into the game at first because of all the shots and tackles. As the game progressed, however, I found that I could not help but concentrate on the game at hand. Thought I felt it a few times during the game, I was mostly comfortable.
With Davis expected to play and the Trail Blazers battling with their own injury issues, the Lakers should be able to pull off a victory even without James.
