Cavaliers beat Warriors; Warriors are now 0-2 versus Cleveland.
Both the Warriors’ 118-110 loss in Cleveland and Saturday night’s 118-110 home loss to the Cavaliers followed the same pattern. The Warriors’ sole offense against Cleveland’s size and defense was 30 points from Steph Curry. With this defeat, the Warriors’ record drops to 6-4 overall and 1-2 at home.
The Cavaliers scored 50 more points than the Warriors in the paint and forced 20 more turnovers, leading to 32 points for Cleveland. There was no other Warrior with the offensive firepower of Curry. Despite the efforts of Jonathan Kuminga (12 points), Andrew Wiggins (13 points), and Klay Thompson (14 points), the Cavaliers’ long and athletic front court of Evan Mobely and Jarrett Allen prevented any of their shooters from getting open looks.
Draymond Green was penalized for a second technical foul and dismissed mid-way through the third quarter, affecting the mood of the second half. Green and Donovan Mitchell got into an incident when Mitchell bumped Green while he was taking the ball up court. Officials rewatched the play and determined Green committed technical foul number four for pushing off Mitchell in an attempt to steal the ball from him.
The Warriors’ first two games of the week are against the Minnesota Timberwolves, with Sunday’s contest serving as the group round of the In-Season Tournament. The next two games are at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and then the Houston Rockets come to town.
