The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Portland Trail Blazers 116-110 on the road on Sunday, led by Anthony Davis’s 30 points and 13 rebounds.
In Reddish’s second start in place of Reaves, he and Austin Reaves combined for 18 points to help Los Angeles. LeBron James missed his first game of the season due to a left calf contusion, but the Lakers still managed to win.
Los Angeles, who had only three wins in the first eight games but two straight after rearranging their starting lineup, was led by D’Angelo Russell’s 11 points and 11 assists.
For the Trail Blazers, Jerami Grant scored 23 points (including 15 in the fourth quarter), and Shaedon Sharp added 19. For Portland, Matisse Thybulle scored 14 points, and both Deandre Ayton and Skylar Mays scored 12.
Anfernee Simons (thumb), Scoot Henderson (ankle), and Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring) all missed the game for Portland. Knee surgery has ended Robert Williams III’s season.
The up-and-down Trail Blazers have dropped three straight games after starting the season 0-3.
The Blazers took a 57-56 lead into the locker room and extended it to 61-56 early in the third quarter before the Lakers rallied. The Clippers went on a 15-2 run late in the third quarter to take an 81-70 lead with 3:41 remaining in the session and a 91-80 edge into the final ten minutes of regulation.
Portland did not wait long to get back into the game, closing to within a point at 93-92 with 8:44 remaining after a 3-pointer by Grant. With 5:03 remaining, Los Angeles led 102-94, but a 7-0 run by the Blazers cut the deficit to one (102-101) after another Grant 3-pointer.
Davis and Hachimura put the Lakers up 112-106 with 1:19 to go, and the Lakers held on for the victory thanks to four free throws made by Lonzo Ball and company in the final 16 seconds.
