Philadelphia 76ers lost to Indiana Pacers 132-126 on Tuesday in the NBA in-season tournament. They won’t have much time to think about it.
On Tuesday, the 76ers lost their eight-game winning streak. On Wednesday, they play at home to the exciting Boston Celtics.
Joel Embiid made all 17 free throws and scored 39 points and grabbed 12 boards. There were 30 points from De’Anthony Melton, 27 points from Tyrese Maxey, and 22 points from Tobias Harris.
Even though the Sixers got within four points twice in the last 30 seconds, it wasn’t enough.
Nick Nurse, head coach of the Sixers, said, “We couldn’t get away and build any kind of lead.” “Sometimes the ball does not bounce your way.”
Maxey got 50 points against the Pacers two nights ago, which was the highest score of his career. Maxey didn’t do it again, but he was still very good, and he has continued to be good since James Harden was moved to the Los Angeles Clippers. Maxey only made 9 out of 23 shots from the field, but he did have five assists and four boards in the loss.
The nurse told Maxey, “He still played pretty well.” “You play 82, some nights you have it rolling, some nights not, some nights in the middle.”
Melton told Maxey, “He sets the pace, make or miss.”
When Harris hit Bruce Brown with 10:40 left in the fourth quarter, it looked like he hurt his neck. Harris came back after a quick trip to the changing room. He might or might not be able to play in the game against the Celtics.
Embiid was listed as doubtful because his left hip hurt, but he still put on a great show. We don’t know if Embiid will be ready for the back-to-back game either.
The Celtics, on the other hand, will be trying to win their fourth straight game.
On Monday, Boston easily beat the New York Knicks 114–98.
Again, Jayson Tatum (35 points), Jaylen Brown (22 points), and Kristaps Porzingis (21 points) all scored at least 20 points.
But Porzingis might not be able to play against the Sixers because he hurt his right knee.
Tatum missed seven of his first eight 3-point shots, but he came back to make 13 of 23 shots and score 17 points in the fourth quarter.
“I’ve played enough games, had enough tough shooting nights,” said Tatum. “All really, really good scorers know that one miss can change your swing and how you feel about shooting the ball.” You feel better about yourself after seeing one go in.
The Celtics had trouble scoring as a team until the fourth quarter when they really got going.
Boston’s head coach, Joe Mazzulla, said, “If I could come up with another shot besides a three or a layup, I’ll do it.” “You can not kick it in.” We couldn’t just throw it in the ocean, you know?”
After playing a tough game against a longtime enemy, the next game is against the Sixers, who are also a bitter rival.
“I love games like this because it’s going to reveal who we are, what we’ve been doing, and where we need to get better,” said Mazzulla. “This isn’t the best game you can play, and you’re only down one.” That’s a good thing because things could be much worse. Also, I thought our guys were tough and stuck with it.
