The Los Angeles Lakers suffered their first home loss of the season on the second leg of a back-to-back loss to the Sacramento Kings, a score of 15 points. And the main news coming out of the game was the tough performance by Anthony Davis.
With nine points, nine rebounds, and five turnovers, Davis played in his worst game of the season. Domantas Sabonis, a big man for the Kings, dominated the Lakers with 29 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists; Davis added four blocks.
Later on, Davis failed to provide any justifications for his subpar performance. “I simply behaved poorly,” Davis admitted. “I have no plans to wear it. There were merely missed shots. Honestly, I felt like I performed terrible tonight. It’s really that easy.
This Lakers squad is all about taking responsibility, and Davis is no exception. He owns up to his poor performance. Although Davis has admitted that his ongoing hip ailment still hurts him to some extent, he has also dismissed the idea that it is the cause of his struggles.
According to Davis, “I’m still treating it every day.”. “Because it’s a back-to-back, you obviously don’t have that day to give it your best. But, you know, it’s just how it is. I need to give it my all when I put on the jersey and take the field. I had to go out there and perform my job, even if it was still slightly upsetting me.
Despite never taking the lead and falling down by as many as 26 points in the fourth quarter, the Lakers managed to mount a comeback and pull within single digits before ultimately losing the game. According to Davis, this exemplified the tenacity and perseverance of the Lakers’ team.
“We just kept fighting. “Made a push, but then I missed a few shots and turned the ball over in the final seconds,” the big man said. That, though, was the end of it. It would have been easy to call it quits, but we’re not that kind of team. Despite the setbacks, we kept fighting and will prepare to face Portland on Friday in an effort to win again.
Davis has made it plain that he will play despite his continuing hip problem, and he pointed out that the Lakers have an opportunity to get back on track on Friday night when they travel to face the Portland Trail Blazers.
It won’t bother me. Sure, I’m going to play. Without a doubt.
After a lackluster showing like this, Davis will be eager to get back on track against Portland.
