Introducing the Nike Book 1, Devin Booker’s signature sneaker, which has taken sneaker culture to new heights. A number of hues, including the original Clay Orange as well as future iterations in Spring 2024 like Ashen Slate and Light Orewood Brown, will be released to commemorate this major milestone in Booker’s career. In addition to the retail releases of the Nike Book 1, Booker’s on-court performances in special Player Exclusive (PE) versions, such the Cool Grey and a one-of-a-kind Clay Orange PE, further highlight the shoe’s story.
But the most recent Nike Book 1 colorway, “Be Legendary” (which features purple), stands out because it pays homage to Booker’s ties to the Nike Kobe line and his history with the brand. This specific layout is based on Booker’s personal 2021 Kobe 4 PE. A unforgettable encounter between a young Booker and the late Kobe Bryant is the origin of the “Be Legendary” slogan. During Kobe’s last game in 2016 against the Suns, rookie Devin Booker was given a pair of Nike Kobe 11s by Bryant. The shoes were autographed and had the now-iconic expression “Be Legendary.” The two athletes, particularly in the sneaker community, formed a unique kinship at this point. Booker began his NBA career with Kobe Bryant’s Nike sneakers and wore them until he got his own pair.
The design of Booker’s cherished Kobe 4 PE is reflected in the Nike Book 1 Be Legendary. Black details on the Swoosh, sockliner, and pull tab contrast with the eye-catching all-over purple finish. Booker pays homage to his hero Bryant with the beautiful scripted inscription “Be Legendary” on the side mudguard, which captures the spirit of Bryant’s legacy. Booker’s love for these sneakers shone through in his playing as well. He led the Suns to a victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves with an amazing 31 points while wearing this PE Nike Book 1.
The Nike Book 1 is expected to be released in a variety of colors for the upcoming NBA season and beyond, though this particular pair is unlikely to be sold at retail. If you want to stay up-to-date on all things shoe-related, including Booker’s sneaker line, download the Sole Retriever app.
