On Saturday night, the Chicago Bulls rallied to defeat the Miami Heat 102–97, including 23 points from DeMar DeRozan. The loss snapped the Heat’s seven-game winning run.
Once again, the Bulls found themselves in a situation where they were down by double digits and had no choice but to attempt a comeback. The Bulls ended their three-game losing run with a ferocious fourth-quarter comeback, even though they were behind 22-1 in the middle of the first quarter and were booed by the home crowd.
Each of Chicago’s five starters—Alex Caruso included—scored at least ten points. Coby White scored fourteen points, Nikola Vucevic fifteen, and Zach LaVine thirteen.
The Heat were never behind and didn’t lose until the very end thanks to 25 points from Jimmy Butler. But in the last seconds of the game, Butler failed to convert on two 3-point tries. Bam Adebayo had his sixth double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Duncan Robinson scored seventeen.
In the last minute of regulation, the Bulls took their first lead of the game on a 3-pointer by Alex Caruso in front of the Heat bench with 51.8 seconds left. However, Chicago took the lead for good with 22 seconds left on a turnaround fadeaway by DeRozan. The game was effectively sealed with two free throws by DeRozan with five seconds remaining, after an initially dismal shooting effort from the floor and the charity stripe.
After falling behind 22-1 due to missing their first ten shots, the Bulls finally broke their shooting slump seven minutes into the first quarter on a running jumper by Zach LaVine.
The Heat defeated the Bulls in a Play-In Tournament game in April after overcoming a late fourth-quarter deficit. This was their first encounter since then. The Heat’s unlikely journey to the NBA Finals began with their entry into the playoffs.
