Even though they had a tough night, the Celtics were able to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 102–100 to get another important win. Their sixth straight win makes their record 11-2, which is the best in the league.
On this night, the Celtics didn’t play their best basketball. They had 17 mistakes, with 8 of them coming from Jayson Tatum, and 8 offensive fouls. Tatum had 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists by the end of the game, but he didn’t do much during the night. Jaylen Brown had 12 points, 6 boards, and 3 assists in the end, but he only made 5-16 shots from the field.
Kristaps Porzingis kept the Celtics ahead all night with 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 (!!!) blocks while Brown and Tatum were having trouble. He also scored the game’s last four points, two free throws, and an easy dunk after Jayson Tatum set him up with one minute left.
“Emotional game,” Porzingis said after the hoop. “These Grizzlies played tough and came to win.” We had to work hard for this one. Our game wasn’t very good.
Desmond Bane (30 points, 8 assists) and Santi Aldama (28 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists) were the best for the Grizzlies. Jaren Jackson Jr. had 17 points and 8 rebounds by the end of the night. He was an All-Star for Memphis last year. At the end of the night, 13 offensive rebounds gave Memphis 21 second-chance points.
Marcus Smart missed the game for Memphis because he hurt his ankle and will not be able to play for a month.
The Celtics’ road trip ends tomorrow in Charlotte.
