At the conclusion of the first quarter of their game against the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers announced that starting wing Cam Reddish would not be playing due to groin soreness.
The precise moment Reddish injured his groin is unknown, but it is unfortunate given how well he has been playing since being added to the starting lineup.
Reddish has averaged 10.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and 41.2% shooting from beyond the arc in eight games this season as a starter. With Reddish sidelined against the Jazz, Lakers head coach Darvin Ham looked to Max Christie for rotation minutes. If Reddish is forced to miss any time going forward, this will probably remain the case.
On Wednesday night, the Lakers will host the Dallas Mavericks for the second leg of a back-to-back. It’s reasonable to assume that Reddish will miss that match due to the short turnaround, which would mean that Austin Reaves, Christie, or Rui Hachimura would start.
Given Jarred Vanderbilt and Gabe Vincent’s prolonged absences, Los Angeles is currently lacking in perimeter players. Despite the unpredictable nature of groin injuries, it is hoped that Reddish’s absence will be brief.
