The Dallas Mavericks beat the Los Angeles Lakers 104–101 on Wednesday night, even though they lost a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter. Kyrie Irving scored 28 points and hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 22 seconds left.
LeBron James scored 16 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter and made the game-winning tip-in with 1:16 left. However, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer also turned the ball over with four seconds left and then missed a 3-point try at the buzzer that would have tied the game.
In the last minute, Luka Doncic and James both missed three-point shots. Then, Irving calmly made his fourth three-pointer of the night near the Lakers’ bench. Then Doncic stole James’s bad pass to the basket, and Irving made two free throws before James missed another 3-point shot.
The Mavs missed 16 of their 19 shots in the fourth quarter, but Doncic scored 30 points for them. But they couldn’t turn it into a win even though they scored 30 points more than Dallas in the fourth.
Anthony Davis only scored 10 points and grabbed 14 boards. He didn’t score at all in the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter started with Dallas ahead 91–71 over the step-slow Lakers. However, the Mavericks missed their first 11 shots of the quarter, while James led a long run of points. At the end, the Lakers missed four free throws that would have tied the game.
Josh Green scored 15 points to lead the Mavericks to a win over the Lakers in their fourth straight road game. The Mavericks, who have one of the best offenses in the NBA, scored a lot of points.

In the third quarter, Dereck Lively went down hard under the Mavs’ basket and needed help getting to the locker room. The 7-foot-1 center hurt his lower back when he fell after hitting Davis, the Mavs said.
Cam Reddish missed the Lakers game because his groin hurt. He joined Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent, and youngster Jalen Hood-Schifino as players who couldn’t play because of injuries.
Max Christie had seven in 23 minutes since taking over for Reddish, which was his fourth start of the season.
Texas’ Maxi Kleber missed his seventh straight game because of a toe issue. When the Mavericks went to Los Angeles to play the Lakers in March of last year, Kleber made a last-second 3-pointer that beat the Lakers 111-110 while Doncic was out with an injury.
