Even though they lost a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter, the Dallas Mavericks beat the Los Angeles Lakers 104–101 on Wednesday night. With 22 seconds left, Kyrie Irving made the game-winning 3-point shot and scored 28 points.
James scored 16 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter, and with 1:16 left in the game, he made the tip-in that won it. This NBA player scored the most points ever, but he turned the ball over with four seconds left and then missed a 3-point shot at the end that would have tied the game.
James and Luka Doncic both missed three-point shots in the last second. Then Irving made his fourth three-pointer of the night while staying calm. It was close to the Lakers’ bench. Following James’s bad pass to the basket, Doncic stole it and made two free throws before James missed another 3-point shot.
In the fourth quarter, the Mavs missed 16 of their 19 shots, but Doncic scored 30 points to help them win. Even though they scored 30 more points than Dallas in the fourth, they still couldn’t win.
Anthony Davis only scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. In the fourth quarter, he didn’t score at all.
At the start of the fourth quarter, Dallas was ahead 91–71 over the Lakers, who were moving slowly. But the Mavericks missed their first 11 shots in the quarter, and James scored a lot of points during that time. They missed four free shots at the end that would have tied the game.
They beat the Lakers with 15 points from Josh Green, which was their fourth straight win on the road. Their attack is one of the best in the NBA, and they scored a lot of points.
The Lakers have won six straight games and Austin Reaves has scored 17 points in that time. D’Angelo Russell scored 15 more points. L.A. has won all of its home games this season except for two.
Dallas mostly beat the Lakers in the first three quarters, even though they had only nine healthy players on the court for their sixth game in nine days.
Dereck Lively fell hard under the Mavs’ basket in the third quarter and needed help going to the locker room. The Mavs said the 7-foot-1 center hurt his lower back when he fell after Davis.
He couldn’t go to the Lakers game because his hip hurt. He joined young players Jalen Hood-Schifino, Gabe Vincent, and Jarred Vanderbilt as players who were hurt and couldn’t play.
Since taking over for Reddish, Max Christie has scored seven goals in 23 minutes. It was his fourth start of the season.
With a sore toe, Maxi Kleber of Texas missed his seventh straight game. The Mavericks beat the Lakers 111–110 with a last-second 3-pointer in March of last year, when they went to Los Angeles to play them. Doncic was out with an injury at the time.
