After the loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday, the Serbian star Nikola Jokić, The Denver Nuggets need to improve their defense.
The Nuggets need to improve to overcome consecutive setbacks, they have lost three out of their last four games and are different from the dominant team they were to start the season.
On Sunday’s game against the Cavaliers, Jokic had an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double plus seven assists, one steal, and one block. He lasted 28 minutes in Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
After the game, he said,
“They were just better. In the offensive glass, paint, they were getting everything they want,”
Jokic believes it’s the team’s defense for the setbacks, speaking to the media this week, where he gave a brutally honest answer about the Nuggets’ team defense.
As he previewed the upcoming game at Little Caesars Arena, he expressed,
“The win would be nice. Maybe play a little bit better, and get open shots. I think we have been playing a little bit stagnant right now. Maybe a little more movement in defense. Our defense is really bad right now.”
After an 8-1 start to the season, the squad has now dropped its last 3 games against the Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers, and New Orleans Pelicans.
It appears that in all four of the Nuggets’ losses, their opponents have averaged about 116 points per game, placing them about 23rd in the NBA in terms of defensive rating.
In addition to Vlatko Cancar of Slovenia, who might miss the entire 2023–24 season, Michael Malone’s club is also without Jamal Murray.
