5 Talking Points for Boston Celtics vs. Magic: Can Cs end Orlando’s winning streak?
1. Jaylen Brown heard the noise and responded correctly. He also showed that his new partnership with the Boston Celtics, which they made this offseason, works well.
People were yelling at Jaylen Brown after the loss to the Charlotte Hornets. He heard them, but he answered with an amazing game that helped the Warriors beat the Milwaukee Bucks.
Brown finished the game with 26 points, two rebounds, eight assists, and one steal. He also made a very good percentage of shots, making 10/16 from the field (62.5%) and 3/5 from beyond the arc (60%). The way he linked up with Kristaps Porzingis was one of the most impressive things about his game, and I think we will start to see it more often.
He won “Player of the Game” for this game and “Play of the Game” for his throw pass to Porzingis. In the process, he put doubters to rest, at least for now.
However, Brown is currently listed as “Questionable” for the In-Season matchup with the Orlando Magic because of a strain in his right adductor. The Bucks game showed that Brown is still a top player and an important part of this Celtics team, so I hope he gets better quickly and we don’t have to wait too long to see him back on the court.
2. Jayson Tatum had his own “flu game” in which he played like Michael Jordan
The NEBH Injury Report for Jayson Tatum said that he was “questionable” for the game against the Bucks because of a non-covid sickness. This made Celtics fans very nervous. Was Tatum going to have his own flu game? Or was Tatum going to miss this important game? Luckily, it was the first one.
People became familiar with the idea of a “flu game” after Michael Jordan’s showing in Game 5 in 1995. He played this game even though he was sick and finished it with 38 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in an amazing 44 minutes, which is a lot of time when you consider that he was sick.
Even though Tatum’s “flu game” wasn’t a Game 5, any game against the Bucks will be intense and feel like they have to be won. He had 23 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 block by the end of the Bucks game. Those aren’t quite Michael Jordan numbers, but they’re still pretty good.
All of us hope that Tatum is fully better now and will be at his best for the game against the Magic.
3. Jrue Holiday had a tough time scoring against his old team in a bittersweet homecoming, but he won in the end.
Jrue Holiday got to play against his old team, the Milwaukee Bucks, again, which was very sad.
Before the game started, Holiday laughed, smiled, and shook hands with the current team that won the title. There were good feelings between him and his old friends, but the Celtics guard didn’t do anything different when he left the locker room.
You can easily say that Holiday didn’t have a good reunion game based on his stats alone: he finished the game with five points, eight boards, one assist, one steal, and one block. But these numbers don’t even begin to show how much he changed the game as a whole.
We have seen the All-Defensive guard play better before, but this wasn’t it. Holiday did his job on defense, and he did it well.
We’ve seen this season that Holiday has taken on the task of guarding players who are usually much bigger and stronger than him. He first showed this when he played one-on-one with the current MVP, Joel Embiid. He also didn’t mind guarding Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has won two MVP awards, in their most recent game. Holiday and his backcourt partner, Derrick White, sometimes guarded Giannis. They also made things hard for the Bucks’ new player Damian Lillard by holding him to seven points when they were protecting him.
As I’ve said before, when the Celtics’ offense isn’t working well, guys like Holiday need to step up and score points. But in this game, his defense was enough to help his team win.
Brown isn’t the only one whose name is on the injury report. Holiday’s name is also on the report for the Magic game, but unlike Brown, his status is “probably” instead of “questionable.” If possible, I’d like to see both of you on the court on Friday.
4. In-season tournament dreams for the Orlando Magic are on the line.
It is now or never for the Orlando Magic in the first NBA In-Season Tournament. The group stage is almost over.
For the knockout rounds, the best teams from each group and the conference with the best record move on. This is a must-win for the Orlando Magic if they want to make it to the next round.
With two wins and one loss, they are tied for third place in East Group C with the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets have a better point difference (+7) than the Magic (+5), which makes them ahead.
There are three teams ahead of the Celtics in East Group B: the Bucks (+36), the Knicks (+16), and the Heat (+13). This means that a win against the Celtics might not be enough to keep them in the game. This season, the Celtics have only lost three games. Two of those losses were by three points or less, and the other was by five points. The Magic need to beat the Celtics by a large margin if they want to make it to the next round. This is something that no other team has done so far. Could the Magic do something impossible?
5. The amazing change in the Orlando Magic—5 straight wins show the change
Every NBA fan knows that this is not the same Orlando Magic team from last year. The Magic have beaten three of the last four NBA Champions, including the Lakers, the Bucks, and most recently the Denver Nuggets. This shows that they are a real threat this year. In January, they play the Golden State Warriors. Can they make it four wins in a row over NBA champions?
A lot of young talent plays for the Magic. Names like Paulo Banchero, Franz Wagner, Cole Anthony, Jalen Suggs, and more. When this young team is already playing this well, it’s scary to think about what the future holds for this group, unless you’re a Magic fan.
The Orlando Magic were the 13th seed last year with a record of 34 wins and 48 losses. After 15 games this season, they don’t look like the same team. It’s amazing how far this company has come in such a short time. Can they keep up their good form for the rest of the season?
The Orlando Magic have a bright future ahead of them, but first, they have to beat the Boston Celtics, who are the odds-on favorites to win the whole thing, in the first NBA In-Season Tournament. Are they up to the task? Or will the Celtics be too much for this young team to handle?
