The Orlando Magic beat the Boston Celtics 113–96, which was their worst loss of the season. In the second half, the Magic scored 25 more points than the Celtics. This is Orlando’s sixth straight win and Boston’s second loss in three games. Orlando is now in a good position to win East Group C and move on to the next round of the In-Season Tournament.
Moe Wagner scored a game-high 27 points for the Magic by making 9 of 13 shots. Paul Banchero scored 23 points (10-16 FG), Franz Wagner scored 19 points (9-18 FG), and Cole Anthony scored 16 points.
Tatum led the Celtics with 26 points, 12 of which came from free throws. Jaylen Brown scored 18 points, but only 6 in the last three quarters put together, making his total score 6-21 for the night. As a starter at point guard, Derrick White scored 16 points, and Kornet scored 12 points off the bench.
The Celtics got off to a great start and ended the first quarter ahead 30–19. Jaylen Brown picked up where he left off against the Bucks. He scored 12 points in the first quarter, including this crazy and-one shot from behind the basket, but had a terrible second half.
Jrue Holiday couldn’t play for the Celtics because he hurt his ankle against the Bucks on Wednesday. They also lost Kristaps Porzingis for the night because his left calf hurt. He played 22 minutes and had 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals before leaving in the third quarter. Derrick White also hurt his arm, but he went back into the game after getting checked out in the locker room.
The Celtics were ahead by eight points at halftime and by twelve points early in the third quarter. But the Magic went on a huge 17-0 run to take the lead 67–62 with five minutes left in the third and kept it at three points going into the fourth.
The Celtics had one of their worst games of the season in the last quarter. They fell behind by 10 points and gave up 36 points, many of which were easy layups and shots for the Wagners.
On the night, the Celtics made 41.3% of their shots from the floor and 24.3% of their three-point shots. The Magic made 50.6% of their shots from the field and 39.3% of their three-point shots. They also got more boards than the Celtics, 48 to 30 for the afternoon.
The Magic have the third-best defense in the league, and they held the Celtics to their fewest points all season. The Bucks beat the Celtics at home on Wednesday night, while the Magic lost to Denver the night before.
With the loss, the Celtics’ record drops to 12-4. They are now second in the league, behind the Timberwolves, but they are first in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics have lost four games in a row to the Magic. They will try to get back on track on Sunday at 6 p.m. when they play the Atlanta Hawks (7-7).
