Devin Booker’s Spectacular 40-Point Performance Drives Suns to Victory Over Grizzlies

In Friday’s NBA in-season tournament game, the visiting Phoenix Suns defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 110-89, with a season-high 40 points scored by Devin Booker.

With Kevin Durant out with a painful right foot and Bradley Beal nursing a low back injury, the Suns nevertheless managed to win, 66–53, thanks to 20 points from Eric Gordon. They are now 5–0 on the road.

Phoenix took advantage of a 52.0% shooting percentage and scored the final 14 points of the second quarter to take a 62-49 lead into halftime, with 14 points each from Grayson Allen and Jordan Goodwin.

Santi Aldama of Memphis scored 21 points, while Derrick Rose of Memphis scored 17 points on 8-for-9 shooting.

The Grizzlies have dropped their first seven home games this season, including 14 points from reserve player David Roddy and 13 points and seven boards from Jaren Jackson Jr.

The bench players for Memphis were able to keep the game close by outscoring the starters for the Suns by a score of 37-24.

With 4:17 seconds left in the half, Aldama put Memphis up 49-48 on a 3-pointer. The Suns were energized after a dunk by Keita Bates-Dip. Before halftime, Booker sunk three jump shots, Gordon and Allen each drained a 3-pointer, and the game was still close.

In the middle of the third quarter, Booker extended Phoenix’s advantage to 75-57 with a 3-pointer. However, Aldama answered with a 3-pointer of his own and a slam in transition, sparking a 16-6 run that ended the quarter.

To cut the Suns’ lead to 84-78 early in the fourth quarter, John Konchar converted a free throw, and Rose nailed two jumpers. But Phoenix sealed the victory with a 16-4 surge that included 10 points from Goodwin and a 3-pointer from Gordon.
