Curry’s Brilliance: 35 Points, Seven 3-Pointers Carry Warriors to Victory Over Spurs

In Friday night’s In-Season Tournament game against the struggling San Antonio Spurs, Stephen Curry led the Golden State Warriors with 35 points, tied a season high with seven 3-pointers, and added six assists. The Warriors held on to defeat Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs, 118-112.

The Spurs were within 111–109 after a 3-pointer by Cedi Osman with 21 seconds remaining, but Curry hit four free throws in the final seconds and Klay Thompson added another pair.

Thompson had 15 points and six assists, and bench player Dario Saric had 20 points, four 3-pointers, and seven rebounds. Despite losing their second game in a row, Golden State is still in the in-season tournament with a shot at advancing from Group C.

The first overall pick, Wembanyama, contributed 22 points and 8 boards in San Antonio’s 11th consecutive defeat despite shooting 1-for-6 from outside the arc. The Spurs took an early lead of 11-4 thanks to his five points, one of which was a 3-pointer. In the middle of the second quarter, the 7-foot-3 rookie attempted a beautiful around-the-waist move to go to the rim, but a high-leaping Gary Patyon II, who was over a foot shorter, blocked his shot.

For San Antonio, who went 0-4, Devin Vassell scored 24 points and Keldon Johnson added 22 points and 12 boards in tournament group play.

Final score

Spurs - 112
Warriors - 118

As a team, the Warriors own a 7–9 series record versus the Spurs, including five consecutive victories.

Draymond Green has been practicing with the trainers in preparation for his return to the court on Tuesday in Sacramento, where a Warriors loss on Friday would have guaranteed a trip to the quarterfinals. Green served the last game of his five-game ban for chokeholding Rudy Gobert.

If all goes according to plan, coach Steve Kerr expects him to play significant minutes.

In commemoration of the late Jim Barnett, a former player and announcer for the Golden State Warriors, a new media center has been unveiled.

“I can’t believe I’m still here to witness everything,” Barnett exclaimed.
