NBA fans were going crazy on Opening Night of the NBA season when Reggie Jackson looked to make LeBron James stumble before he made a three-point jumper over him. The game was between the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Nevertheless, video footage has emerged that shows the Nuggets’ guard did not actually humiliate LeBron by leaving him with “broken ankles” during the disputed play.

Before the iconic play happened in the first few minutes of the second half, Jamal Murray spotted Jackson unguarded in the court’s corner.
James approached the 6-foot-2 guard closely in an attempt to block the shot he was about to take.
However, the four-time NBA champion dropped to the ground after what appeared to be a jab step by the Nuggets star. Before Jackson’s three-pointer made it Denver’s 40–22, the Nuggets had taken the lead once more.
Immediately following the game, a sizable portion of the audience ridiculed LeBron for supposedly having Jackson break his “ankles” on social media.
In the language of basketball, this means that a player with the ball deceived a defense until they lost their balance and fell to the court below.
In fact, some have suggested that James, a 19-time All-Star, should “retire,” claiming he is beginning to show the signs of aging.
Conversely, more composed NBA fans rushed to the Lakers forward’s aid and distributed footage of the action taken from an alternative angle.
The footage showed Jackson stepping on James’ foot while feigning to take a shot, sending the four-time Most Valuable Player to the floor.
“Reggie’makes’ LeBron fall before cannoning the three to compound injury,” an X user wrote.
“If you watch the replay, you’ll see that LBJ went down because he nearly sprained his ankle stepping on LeBron’s foot.”
Another person spoke up and said, “How pitiful! Clear offensive foul NOT called!”
“Reggie Jackson stepped on LeBron’s foot and people gonna act like he got his ankles broken,” said a third person.
There has been a great deal of animosity between Denver and Los Angeles ever since the Nuggets upset LeBron James and company in the conference finals of the previous season and went on to win the NBA championship.
When a Colorado sportscaster called Lakers head coach Mike Malone “the Lakers’ daddy” during the June title parade, the antagonism was heightened even further.
