December 26: Anthony Davis scored 32 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to help the Los Angeles Lakers beat Cleveland 121–115 on Saturday night.
Max Christie scored 12 points, D’Angelo Russell scored 10, and LeBron James scored 22 points for the Lasers. In their last five games, the Lakers have won four of them.
Los Angeles’s bench also played well. One player scored 10 or more points, and two others scored 10 or more points. Austin Reaves had 15 points and 10 assists.
They had Evan Mobley score 18 points, Donovan Mitchell score 22 points and Jarrett Allen score 21 points and grab 14 boards. In their last five games, they had won four of them.
Cleveland’s bench also did a good job. Georges Niang scored 13 points and Craig Porter scored 11.
The Cavaliers were ahead of both teams at the start of the game and had a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter. Before Davis made two free throws with 5:46 left, neither team had a lead of more than four points. That made his team ahead 108–103.
Max Strus made a three-pointer with 2:25 left in the game, tying the game at 93. James was called for a foul, which gave the Cavaliers the win.
Cleveland was down by one point, 113–111, after Mobley made a dunk and was fouled. However, he missed the free throw that came next. After a short jump shot, James stole a pass on the other end and scored on a dunk in the open court to make the score 117–112. The game had 1:12 left.
They scored on a bounce pass to tie the game at 2-2, but James missed a 3-pointer. Mitchell missed a clear jump shot on the other end with 23.8 seconds left.
At the 19:6 mark, Reaves made two free throws to give his team a 119–115 lead. After that, he made two more to seal the win.
Both teams made 60.9% of their shots from the floor in the first half. At halfway, the Cavaliers were ahead 71–70 because they made 53.2% of their shots.
Both teams made more than 55% of their shots from the floor in the first quarter, which ended with one team ahead 40–35. During that time, Mitchell got 13 points for Cleveland.
