With an easy 107-88 victory over Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks at home, Russell Westbrook and the Los Angeles Clippers got their team back on track after suffering their sixth loss of the year and missing the chance to get closer to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who lead the Western Conference.

After the Mavericks game, Westbrook showed his respect for Irving in a statement to the media.

He disclosed that the former player for the Nets had supported him during his trying moments with the Los Angeles Lakers the previous campaign.

“During the summer, we went to the gym a few times. I admire him for all he stands for and believes in,” Westbrook said to Sports Illustrated’s Joey Linn.

“In particular, his family. He is a superb basketball player who has done tremendous things in the league.

“Mutual respect, and I’m always thankful for him supporting me through everything since I’ve been in the league.”

Westbrook concentrated on the group.

In his 25 minutes of action on Saturday against Dallas, Russell Westbrook finished with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists on 6-9 shooting, almost achieving a triple-double.

It was “definitely a big win for us, especially after last night,” he said after the match.

“Whatever time I’m on the floor, my job is to make sure when I come in, we extend our lead or build it.”

Although Westbrook is taking some time to adjust to life with the Clippers, his coach acknowledged that he is still supporting his teammates.

“It’s an adjustment period for him. It’s a little strange being a starter alongside PG and Kawhi, but he’s adjusting well, and it’s nice, Ty Lue told the Los Angeles Times.

“He is a guy who needs the ball in his hands to create and make plays and in that second unit it’s been good for us.”
